Tripod side table with Secessionist Influences, circa 1920
This elegant side table is above all distinguished by the balance of its proportions and the quality of its design.
Its tripod base, composed of three delicately curved uprights gathered around a central stem, recalls the explorations of Central European workshops at the turn of the 20th century. Its organic design brings to mind certain creations of the Vienna Secession, in which the curve remains present while already anticipating the more restrained, geometric lines of Art Deco.
The rectangular top is enhanced by a remarkable geometric marquetry veneer. This subtle decoration brings graphic richness in contrast to the restraint of the structure.
With its compact proportions, the table sits naturally in a contemporary interior. It may be used as an end table, small pedestal table, or display stand for a sculpture or lamp—its sculptural design alone creating a distinctive presence.
Over the decades, the wood has developed a deep, warm brown patina that highlights the curves of the base and the finesse of the top.
In good condition, with light signs of use and small marks of time fully consistent with its age and contributing to its authenticity.
