Art Deco–Style Magazine-Rack Side Table, 1930s
Its construction combines a strong frame of four cylindrical uprights with a slightly overhanging rectangular top and an integrated magazine rack. The overall design has a restrained, architectural character, typical of early 1930s modernism.
The side panels are ornamented with motifs created from small brass nails, while a row of nails discreetly outlines the perimeter of the top. These decorative details recall the vocabulary of André Sornay and certain French productions from the 1930s.
The wood bears old insect marks, likely predating the table’s construction and linked to the use of sapwood sections. Now stable, these traces contribute to the piece’s character. As a precaution, the table has received preventive treatment against wood-boring insects.
A distinctive piece at the intersection of regionalist furniture, modernism and late Art Deco.
In good structural condition.
