Neoclassical-Inspired Art Deco side table, France, 1930s
A neoclassical-inspired Art Deco side table from France, typical of a period when Art Deco furniture still drew upon the classical repertoire while moving towards more restrained, architectural lines.
Its chamfered top rests on a structure decorated with fine vertical and horizontal fluting—a vocabulary inherited from Neoclassicism and frequently reinterpreted by interwar designers. Its balanced proportions give it a discreet, elegant presence.
Originally designed as an occasional table or pedestal table, it will now sit naturally beside an armchair, in an entrance hall, or as a stand for a lamp or sculpture.
The wood has been fully restored: sanded, treated against wood-boring insects and waxed. A few signs of age remain, along with very slight movement that does not affect everyday use.
