Small French Side Table, Early 20th Century
A small French side table from the early 20th century, made from solid wood, probably walnut.
Its highly pared-back design consists of a circular top resting on a hexagonal central stem and an elegant tripod base with sinuous lines. The simplicity of its construction, absence of ornament and beautiful old patina give it a discreet, timeless presence.
Through its balance of rustic character and restraint, the table recalls certain creations by Jean-Michel Frank, as well as the monastic and vernacular furniture revisited during the 1930s.
The top bears irregularities, signs of use and slight movements in the wood that attest to its age and fully contribute to its character. There is slight play in the top, of a few millimetres, with no impact on its everyday use as a side table.
A modest yet exceptionally well-proportioned piece, ideal as a sofa-end table, occasional table or small display pedestal.
Dimensions: H 42 cm × W 49 cm × L 61 cm
