Rare French Art Deco side table, made circa 1930.
Its particularly refined and understated design is based on an architectural structure composed of four long vertical supports connecting the upper top to a lower shelf. Gently curved at their lower ends, the supports extend to form four short feet, creating an elegant sense of continuity between the structure and the base.
The rectangular top features veneer arranged in four symmetrical panels, creating a subtle geometric pattern. A second rectangular shelf positioned near the base completes the composition and emphasises the verticality of the piece.
With its restrained lines, slender proportions and geometric construction, this table reflects the development of modernist furniture in France at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s, when ornament increasingly gave way to proportion, material and construction.
The piece has been restored and retains a beautiful aged patina. Some signs of use and small areas of veneer loss remain, particularly along the edges of the top, consistent with its age and visible in the photographs.
