A late Art Deco French piece in copper and chrome. Circa 1935

With its large hemispherical reflector, geometric volumes and subtle dialogue between the two metals, this small lamp recalls the most refined explorations of late Art Deco and Streamline Moderne.

Its composition is particularly accomplished: a circular chrome-plated metal base supports a central column flanked by four copper elements, each terminating in a sphere, while a half-sphere reflector appears to float above the light source. The result has an almost architectural presence, somewhere between a scientific object, a ship’s lamp and a desk sculpture.

Though unattributed, it recalls certain French productions of the 1930s and 1940s, as well as the work of designers such as Jean Boris Lacroix, Gilbert Poillerat, and some lighting designs by Maison Petitot, in which metal becomes a true compositional material.

This lamp has a strong visual presence. Its silhouette almost suggests an architectural model or a modernist laboratory instrument, giving it a particularly distinctive character.

The metal elements retain a beautiful original patina, with light traces of time that contribute to their authenticity. The reflector shows a slight impact mark, discreet and barely noticeable overall. The electrics are in working order; the cable and plug have been replaced over time.

A rare design, ideal for a desk, console or bookcase, where it will bring a sculptural modernist accent.
