A distinctive ceramic table lamp with an incised geometric decoration, probably made in Europe between the 1950s and 1970s.
The base features an architectural construction, with a broad circular foot supporting a slender stem composed of alternating cylindrical and baluster-shaped volumes. The entire piece is animated by a rich decoration incised directly into the ceramic: chevrons, diamonds, friezes and crosshatched patterns extend across both the stem and the base.
The matte surface, in natural shades of beige and earth tones, retains a beautiful patina that accentuates the incised decoration and gives the piece a distinctly archaic yet architectural presence.
Through its proportions, the simplicity of its silhouette and the contrast between a refined form and the deliberately raw treatment of the material, the lamp reflects the exploration of vernacular and primitive forms undertaken by many European ceramicists in the post-war period.
