French Faux-Wood Ceramic Table Lamp with Antique Influences, circa 1960

This French table lamp from the 1960s elegantly revisits decorative vocabulary inherited from Antiquity and Directoire furniture. Its silhouette, composed of a perfectly balanced sphere resting on a baluster pedestal, recalls timeless forms that have endured through the centuries.

Made of hand-painted ceramic with a faux-wood finish, the base finely imitates the nuanced tones of a precious timber.

Rather than a historicist reproduction, this lamp reflects the way French workshops of the 1950s and 1960s reinterpreted older styles: through cleaner lines, measured proportions and an aesthetic able to complement both a classical interior and a contemporary setting.

The original period lampshade, retained with the piece, casts a warm light that enhances the softness of the ceramic’s amber tones.

A discreet yet refined piece, where a taste for the antique meets the decorative elegance of the mid-20th century.

In good overall vintage condition. The original lampshade has a few barely visible marks near its upper edge; please see photographs.
