This armchair displays all the hallmarks of Louis XIII-style furniture: an architectural frame, generously turned uprights, H-form stretchers, and substantial armrests supported by balusters. Its richly carved foliate apron and front feet terminating in lion paws give the piece a commanding presence.
Time has brought out a magnificent matte patina that enhances the wood grain, bringing the chair today closer to certain Brutalist creations or to a contemporary wabi-sabi aesthetic.
Its imposing proportions and monolithic character make it more than simply an antique armchair: it is a true domestic sculpture, capable of defining a space on its own.
The armchair has been later reupholstered in an ecru fabric in natural tones, whose restraint complements the warmth of the patinated walnut.
In good overall condition. The frame has slight age-related movement, consistent with the age of the piece, without affecting its use.
