“Argos” Armchair by Baumann, France, 1980s
Designed by Baumann in the 1980s, the Argos armchair is distinguished by its instantly recognisable silhouette. A large arch of bentwood wraps around the backrest, while the low, generous seat gives it an almost architectural presence.
Through the simplicity of its lines and a design reduced to the essential, it recalls both certain late Scandinavian explorations and Japanese minimalism.
This example has been upholstered in natural hide—a more recent intervention that works particularly well with the warmth of the beechwood and reinforces the armchair’s organic character.
Somewhere between a reading chair and a sculptural object, the Argos will sit naturally in a contemporary, modernist or more eclectic interior.
In good overall vintage condition. The beechwood frame is in very good condition. The hide upholstery shows a few signs of age, including slight hair loss in places, inherent to the material and its age. This does not affect its use or character.
