Sculptural Corner Lounge Chair, France, circa 1970–1980

Rare corner lounge chair, probably dating from the late 1970s or the 1980s.

Fully upholstered, it is distinguished by its low, particularly enveloping silhouette. Its structure forms a right angle around which two generously padded backrests extend, detailed with horizontal and vertical stitching. Their softly rounded upper sections extend to form armrests, giving the chair its distinctive sculptural profile.

The generous seat sits just 39 cm from the floor, contributing to the chair’s relaxed appearance. The internal construction combines padding with spring suspension, providing a particularly soft and comfortable seat.

The chair retains its original upholstery, a thick, textured fabric in subtly mottled cream and beige tones. Its rich texture adds depth to the volumes and emphasises the generous character of the design.

With its unusual proportions and corner construction, this lounge chair is not necessarily intended to be placed against a wall. Fully upholstered on all sides, it can also be positioned freely within a room, allowing its sculptural silhouette to be appreciated from every angle.

Very good overall vintage condition. Some signs of use consistent with age, as well as a small, discreet cigarette burn to the fabric, visible in the photographs. Very comfortable.
