His work is rooted in the French naturalist tradition and closely associated with the world of the Barbizon School, sharing its fascination with forests, woodland interiors and shifting effects of light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn this relatively large-scale painting, the artist seeks less to describe a particular place than to convey the depth and silence of the forest. Arranged as a succession of vertical forms, the luminous birch trees structure the composition and lend the scene an almost theatrical presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe work is signed “H. PRON” in the lower right corner.
